In Early Years, to teach reading, with fluency and good understanding, we follow the Read, Write, Inc. scheme. Children are streamed in ability sets and taught reading skills that are suitable to their level.
The programme incorporates phonics, handwriting, comprehension and spelling.
In Key Stage 1, phonics planning follows the Jason Wade structure of phonics which sets out a specific order for teaching graphemes. Lessons are structured to follow a recap, teach, practice and apply structure to ensure children have plenty of chance to cover all graphemes. Each child receives at least two sessions of phonics daily.
